Plays

If anyone is in my old home state of North Carolina this weekend, head to The Storefront Theatre in Waxhaw for We Like Short Shorts: A Festival of 10 Minute Plays. My play, “When I Get To Heaven,” about two old curmudgeons trying to find some meaning in a home improvement project gone awry, will be featured along with a full slate of what I am sure are some outstanding plays.

Here and here are links to a couple of good articles on the Ten-Tucky Festival, entering its final weekend this weekend at the Bard’s Town Theatre. LEO Weekly provides a nice overview of all the plays, noting that “though each piece is laugh-out-loud funny, each piece is also thoughtful and witty.” And Insider Louisville has this to say about my play: Peter Stavros’ entry, “Squirrels in a Knothole,” was the evening’s clear winner. It has solid direction from Nick Hulstine, decent comedic chops from the actors, and a script that works on several different levels. It examined toxic masculinity in a corporate environment and frenemies, all with a touch of nihilism and a subtle hint toward the realities of living in a violent world. And it’s all accomplished in between pretty solid squirrel jokes.

Here’s an updated link to the Ten-Tucky Festival of Ten-Minute Plays at the Bard’s Town Theatre right here in Louisville. The poster isn’t completely accurate – it just runs for two weekends, September 8-10, and 14-17 – but if you’re in the area, check out “Squirrels in a Knothole,” as well as the seven other plays written by Kentucky playwrights, directed by Kentucky directors, and performed by almost two dozen Kentucky actors. Support local theater. Don’t let the hawk scare you off!

Kudos to everyone involved in the Kentucky New Play Series yesterday evening at the Kentucky State Fair, including Maxine and Brianna who were both outstanding, and very entertaining, in their roles as the cats in my play, “Out on a Limb” – wishing you much success in the future!

Weathervane Playhouse’s 2017 8×10 TheatreFest opens today with performances through Sunday. If you’re in the Akron area, stop by and check out all eight finalists, including my play, “Good Things.” This year, the plays have to incorporate a box of tarot cards,  which was chosen by the audience members who attended last year’s 8×10 TheatreFest as the “inspiration” prop. Good luck to everyone involved!
