Just a reminder that my new collection of short stories, (Mostly) True Tales From Birchmont Village, comes out this Wednesday (8/11), and in advance of that, here’s a link to my interview in the Authors Guild Member Spotlight. Happy Monday!

Hello my friends, and Happy Monday! I’m excited to announce a launch date of August 11, and a slightly revised cover (to make the title pop), for my new short story collection, (Mostly) True Tales From Birchmont Village. Pre-orders for Kindle eBooks are happening now at Amazon, and a paperback edition will be coming soon. I’m also working on some promotions, so stay tuned!

Hello my friends and Happy Friday! I want to share some exciting news with you AND the cover of my new collection of short stories, (Mostly) True Tales From Birchmont Village. I’m putting the finishing touches on it now for release later this month, but in the meantime, here’s a little blurb to give you an idea of what it’s about – and, as usual, more details will follow!
Meet the residents of Birchmont Village, a close-knit community of quirky characters and eccentrics who, despite their differences, and disagreements, and petty annoyances, always pull together in times of trial and tribulation. Through it all, these townsfolk support one another and, in the process, a lesson is learned, music plays and s’mores are prepared over the warmth of a glowing fire pit. So come along for a year in their lives!

Fiction
Hello there, and Happy Monday! I hope your week is off to a good start. I want to share some exciting news – I have a short story, “Just Like St. Peter,” out today in the premiere edition of a new online lit mag, Blydyn Square Review. The format of this magazine is a little different, in that it requires a subscription fee of $25 but it provides you with lifetime access, and if this first issue is any indication, there’s some good writing in there (and I’m not just talking about myself!). Anyway, if you’re so inclined, mention me in the notes when you subscribe, and, if not, no big deal – this is another one of my “Sadie Stories” that I hope to publish in one collection someday!
Plays
I received the nicest email today from a teacher in Zambia whose drama class of students ages 10-18 performed several scripts from Drama Notebook, one of which being my play, “Out on a Limb.” It’s so cool to hear about people enjoying your work. And now does that make me a global playwright? Happy Wednesday!

Hello, and Happy Derby! In case you haven’t heard, we have a little horse race in Louisville today – back on the first Saturday in May where it belongs. To celebrate, here’s a short story I wrote that takes place on Derby Day – “The Time Chubz the Cat Went Missing.” This is part of a series of stories centered around the (mostly) fictional community of Birchwood Village titled (Mostly) True Tales from Birchwood Village. And I’m excited to announce that I will be publishing all of these stories – seven in all – in one collection this summer! More details to follow …

Hello everyone, and happy Friday! I just posted a new short story – “Critter” – to my Medium page. It deals with the anxieties that might arise as the world starts to slowly reopen and we enter this sort of new “new normal.” Occasionally I like posting on Medium just to get my writing out there and not have to wait on the sometimes (or oftentimes!) frustrating submission process. Enjoy, and have a pleasant weekend!
Essays
As the college basketball season winds down, I am reminded of this essay on my sports fandom that I wrote a few years ago after my team lost the big game, “When My Team Breaks My Heart.”
