“Smoke” is out now in The Dead Mule School of Southern Literature – and check out my Southern Legitimacy Statement. Proud to be part of the Mule!
Non-Fiction
“Lentil Soup in Yiayia’s Kitchen” is out now in the Spring 2017 issue of Thread – an online literary publication, to quote the site, “featuring short personal essays … that illuminate moments of human experience by established and emerging writers.” This piece is adapted from my memoir, and describes a dream I had before waking up in the ICU after my first surgery – a dream so vivid it made me momentarily question what was actually real.
Plays
I’m excited to announce that my play, “Out on a Limb,” has been accepted for production at this year’s Kentucky State Fair in August as part of the Kentucky New Play Series. The theme is “United We Stand Divided We Fall” (Kentucky’s state motto), and I put my own spin on that theme in this tale of two bickering cats who realize they must work together to free themselves from a perilous situation. Yes, I’ve gone from squirrels to cats!
Fiction
My short story, “Smoke,” will appear in The Dead Mule School of Southern Literature on April 1 (no foolin’).

Fiction
My piece of flash fiction, “Three in the Morning and You Don’t Smoke Anymore,” is out now in Kentucky Review 2016. This is, unfortunately, the last edition of this fine anthology. You can purchase a copy of the book here and here – there’s some great writing in it, and all proceeds from sales benefit Action Against Hunger.
Plays
So here’s the inspiration behind “Squirrels in a Knothole” – which premieres February 24 as part of the Festival of Ten produced by The College at Brockport’s Department of Theatre and Music studies. Performances are February 24, 25, March 2, 3, and
4 at 7:30, with a matinee on February 26 at 2. If you’re in the area, come out and support the College, the Festival, and local theater!
Fiction
Just found out that my short short, “Good Advice,” has been accepted for publication in Crack the Spine. It’s one of those pieces that came to me one evening and I had to get it down on paper (yes, I still use paper) as soon as I could. Look for it soon!
