Hello there, and Happy Monday! I hope your week is off to a good start. I want to share some exciting news – I have a short story, “Just Like St. Peter,” out today in the premiere edition of a new online lit mag, Blydyn Square Review. The format of this magazine is a little different, in that it requires a subscription fee of $25 but it provides you with lifetime access, and if this first issue is any indication, there’s some good writing in there (and I’m not just talking about myself!). Anyway, if you’re so inclined, mention me in the notes when you subscribe, and, if not, no big deal – this is another one of my “Sadie Stories” that I hope to publish in one collection someday!

Plays
I received the nicest email today from a teacher in Zambia whose drama class of students ages 10-18 performed several scripts from Drama Notebook, one of which being my play, “Out on a Limb.” It’s so cool to hear about people enjoying your work. And now does that make me a global playwright? Happy Wednesday!

Hello, and Happy Derby! In case you haven’t heard, we have a little horse race in Louisville today – back on the first Saturday in May where it belongs. To celebrate, here’s a short story I wrote that takes place on Derby Day – “The Time Chubz the Cat Went Missing.” This is part of a series of stories centered around the (mostly) fictional community of Birchwood Village titled (Mostly) True Tales from Birchwood Village. And I’m excited to announce that I will be publishing all of these stories – seven in all – in one collection this summer! More details to follow …

Hello everyone, and happy Friday! I just posted a new short story – “Critter” – to my Medium page. It deals with the anxieties that might arise as the world starts to slowly reopen and we enter this sort of new “new normal.” Occasionally I like posting on Medium just to get my writing out there and not have to wait on the sometimes (or oftentimes!) frustrating submission process. Enjoy, and have a pleasant weekend!
Essays
As the college basketball season winds down, I am reminded of this essay on my sports fandom that I wrote a few years ago after my team lost the big game, “When My Team Breaks My Heart.”

I’m excited to have my short, short story, “The Girl With Bags Under Her Eyes,” included in this year’s edition of Literary LEO – the annual creative competition sponsored by the Louisville-based arts & entertainment and community-focused publication LEO Weekly. I wrote this a few years ago, daydreaming one lazy afternoon in a coffee shop about how people can drift in and out of our lives without us ever really getting to know them, sad in a way, but hopefully something we can learn from to try and make an effort to connect. Click on the link and scroll down to find it, and check out all the other excellent writing (not to say necessarily that my writing is excellent, but well, you know what I mean), and some really rad photos too – I’m proud to be in such good company!

Hello! I hope the weather is holding up alright wherever you are. It’s cold and dreary in KY, and it’s got me missing concerts, and live music, and mosh pits – so I posted this short story, The Pit, on my Medium page. Throw your hands up in the air and enjoy!
Plays
Happy Saturday once again! So I had a great conversation the other night with the cast and crew of my play “Geese” that’s part of this first season of the virtual theatre festival The Big Break. For those of you who might’ve missed it live on Twitch (and I’m sorry I wasn’t able to post it in advance but it sort of sneaked up on me), here’s a link where you can catch a full replay. It was a fun time, there are some super talented actors involved, and I can’t wait to see the full production!

Announcement
For those of you waiting for a link to my Twitch interview in support of my play “Geese” on The Big Break – that’s been postponed one week, until next Thursday. But I’ll post the info on that as soon as I get it.
