Chapbook

Three in the Morning and You Don’t Smoke Anymore (Etchings Press, 2020)

The story, told in nonlinear second-person flashes and vignettes, of a young man’s struggle to drive away the past. One entry in this collection was described in the literary magazine Fleas on the Dog as a “quietly heartrendering tonal study with overtones of cinema verite” – and the same can be said for this chapbook as a whole.

Winner of the Etchings Press 2020 Book Prize for a Chapbook of Prose

“Rarely does reading make me want a cigarette, but Pete Stavros’ portrait of a man going down the rabbit hole delivers that beautiful post-coital high of having been through the wringer in the best possible way, even though (spoiler alert!) it contains absolutely no sex. Read it and weep. And laugh. And smoke ’em if you got ’em.”

Bret Witter, 8-time New York Times bestselling author

“Award-winning author/playwright Peter J. Stavros offers timely understanding of how character is steeled or bent through accumulation of numbing nights, dark disappointments and occasional emotional escapes.”
